MANA de Albuquerque Scholarship Fund
Founded in 1985, MANA de Albuquerque has been actively involved in issues related to the advancement of Latinas by supporting access to higher education. MANA de Albuquerque Scholarship Fund awards yearly scholarships of $1000 to Latinas in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties who are enrolled in an accredited college, or university, and who demonstrate a commitment to community service. Over $200,000 has been awarded since inception.

Application Eligibility:
MANA de Albuquerque’s scholarships are considered for Latina female applicants who meet all the following criteria:

Primary residency in Bernalillo, or Sandoval counties

Enrolled, or plan to be enrolled, in an accredited college or university by the start of the 2024-2025 academic year

Meet a Grade Point Average (GPA)
-
2.0 Cumulative GPA, or higher-Entering Freshman to Undergraduate program
-
2.5 Cumulative GPA, or higher-Undergraduate program
-
3.0 Cumulative GPA, or higher-Graduate/Professional program
-
-
Demonstrate a commitment to community service

SELECTION
A scholarship reviewer sub-committee, composed of community members of the Albuquerque Metropolitan Area of New Mexico, reviews the application packets, evaluates the personal statements, as well as the accuracy, completion and timely submission of the applications. Incomplete and late applications will not be considered and will be disqualified.
Number of Scholarships are determined by the Board of Directors of MANA de Albuquerque.
But consideration and priority will be made to the following:

Current Hermanita and Incoming Undergraduate Freshmen

Past Hermanita and Current Undergraduates

Incoming Undergraduate Freshmen

Current Undergraduates

Post-Graduates/Professionals
NOTE: Each applicant will be reviewed based on the priority list and number of scholarships
Scholarship awards will be presented by MANA de Albuquerque at the Annual Banquet. Recipients will be notified of their selection, at least two weeks prior to the banquet, in order to confirm attendance.

PERSONAL STATEMENT
The personal statement is a critical piece of the application. It is an opportunity for you to present yourself and your goals to the scholarship committee. Your Personal Statement should provide the scholarship reviewer sub-committee with the following information:

What does it mean for you to be a Latina in New Mexico?

What are your life aspirations?
-
What is the accomplishment you are most proud of, and why?
-
What school/community activities do you participate in and/or volunteer for? How have these experiences impacted your life and aspirations?
-
Why should you be selected to receive a scholarship?
-
Statement of financial need
-
Parental financial support, scholarships/grants awarded or pending
-
All questions must be responded and completed in a short essay format

PROFESSIONAL LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION
A scholarship applicant must include two professional letters of recommendation from individuals who can speak to any of the five questions answered in the personal statement. (Ex: Teachers, Professors, Educational Institution Staff, Community Member sponsoring/supervising community service and/or mentor).

UNOFFICIAL/OFFICIAL HIGH SCHOOL, COLLEGE or UNIVERSITY TRANSCRIPT
Please provide a high school, or current college, or university, unofficial/official transcript showing cumulative GPA. For high school students, only an unweighed/general average will be considered. If the applicant is an incoming freshman enrolled in a college, or university for the first time (i.e. a high school senior or non-traditional student), a letter of acceptance from the college, or university, is acceptable in lieu of a transcript.

PROOF OF ENROLLMENT
If selected as a scholarship recipient, scholarship funds will only be released upon proof of enrollment. An official copy of enrollment or course schedule is required.

2024 Scholarship Application
Preference is given to current graduating (high school) Hermanitas® and MANA de Albuquerque members with a minimum of two years membership in good standing. Undergraduate, non-traditional, and graduate students are eligible to apply. Applicants must be enrolled in school full-time during the award period. Scholarship funds may be used to cover any education or related costs (i.e. tuition, fees, books, supplies, etc.…).
